FOSTER CARE CASEWORKER PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Foster Care Caseworker position provides a variety of child welfare functions with the goal of achieving permanency for children. This is a new position for a growing Child Welfare program. Previous experience is a plus. This position is full-time. The Foster Care Caseworker provides intensive family-centered casework services to birth parents, foster parents and foster children. Flexible workweek including evenings and weekends when necessary and the ability to respond to family crisis. The Caseworker serves as a member of the LCCC Child Welfare team and provides input towards the general management of the program. As a member of the Child Welfare team, the Caseworker provides back-up support to other team members, including 24-hour on-call, on an as indicated basis. This program will work with children referred through the DHHS abuse-neglect system and will work closely with the court system, birth parents, extended family members, educational resources and other supportive services. EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: Education: BSW from an accredited school of social work or a closely related BA is required. MSW or related MA is preferred. Licensure or eligibility for licensure, in the State of Michigan, as related to the specific degree is required. Must complete 270 hours of competency-based CWTI PSI training before the assignment of a caseload; including a performance-based performance evaluation and written examination. Applicants who have already completed CWTI-PSI training preferred. Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of direct service experience in a family service, or similar setting, preferably in child welfare (adoption or foster family care). A Bachelor or Master level internship may be considered towards the experience. Other experience with vulnerable or at-risk populations is a plus. Additional: A demonstrated ability to work with a variety of professional and support staff in a productive and team-oriented manner. An ability to function well in a multi-task environment.
