This last year has brought the world to a new understanding of fuel dependence, global economies and global warming. Individuals and businesses around the globe are rethinking the fuels they use, the cars and equipment they purchase and the effects of their choices on the future of our earth. We believe these are metaphors for nonprofit human services today, especially in Michigan’s economic environment.

We MUST reassess what we use to get where we are going and how it affects humanity, just as the environmental community is and leaders in the auto industry are. What are the FUELS (revenues, volunteers, staff) we use? Are there alternatives that should be considered? Are they renewable and sustainable? What are the VEHICLES we drive (programs and services)? Are they fuel-efficient? Are they designed with the new world in mind? Will they get us where we want to go quickly and effectively? Are we measuring the IMPACT of our vehicles on the earth (outcomes for children and families and their futures)? Can we see our footsteps in the sand for future generations?
