• Betty Nagel named 2007 Outstanding Field Instructor
• Affiliate member renewal—Paul Ippel, Executive Director of Network 180, has renewed Network 180’s Affiliate membership in the Federation. Network180 is Kent County’s public mental health system. They contract with more than 25 local human service agencies that specialize in providing care to children and families, teens, adults, and seniors who are experiencing mental health or substance abuse problems, or living with a developmental disability. Network 180 has been a Federation member since 2003—thank you, Paul and all employees of Network 180, for your support!
• New Individual member—Donald Porter, newly-retired Examination Manager-Bank and Trust Division within the State of Michigan and current Board member with Lutheran Child and Family Service of Michigan, is the Federation’s newest Individual member. Welcome, Donald, and thank you for your support!

Report: Buenos Principios: Latino Children In The Earliest Years Of Life

The National Council of La Raza has published “Buenos Principios: Latino Children In The Earliest Years Of Life.”  The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States and works to improve opportunities for Hispanic Americans. This report is intended to inform policy-makers, researchers and others about the Latino infant and toddler population in the U.S. and to make recommendations for how we can move toward a child care, education, and health care system that works for Latinos and the nation as a whole. • Affiliate and Individual membership renewals—Gary Anderson, Director, Michigan State University School of Social Work renewed the School’s Affiliate membership in the Federation. MSU School of Work has been a member since 2005. Alma Schmidt, Executive Director of Michigan Association for Foster, Adoptive and Kinship Parents, has renewed MAFAK’s Affiliate membership. This is the second year of membership for MAFAK. Individual membership renewals include: Robert Miles, President/CEO of Lutheran Child and Family Service of Michigan and current Federation Board of Directors President, and Kari Mascar, Director of Lutheran Adoption Service. Thank you Gary, Alma, Bob and Kari, for your support and for all you do for kids and families in Michigan.
