May 29: Investing in Early Childhood: Celebrate the Rising Stars

April 26th, 2007

On May 29, 2007 the Early Childhood Investment Corporation will host a gathering of parents, teachers, advocates and children to share with legislators the power of investing in early childhood programs. Planned activities include:  7:30am breakfast for early risers on the Capitol Lawn, rally on the Capitol Square East, Interactive Issues Briefing, meetings with your State Senators and/or Representatives  and a wrap-up afternoon snack at the ECIC office. Participants will have the opportunity to educate legislators on how they can impact early childhood services. The meetings with legislators will be scheduled for you. Each participant will have the opportunity at the end of the day to share the day’s experiences in the debriefing sessions. May 24: Trauma and Stress workshop

April 26th, 2007

The Trauma and Loss Center of Michigan will host a one-day workshop on May 24, 2007 at the Traverse City Holiday Inn titled “Healing the Inside Child: Cutting Edge Approaches to Stressed and Traumatized Children and Adolescents.” This workshop will focus on helping the angry and defiant youth by addressing trauma and stress. Cutting edge brain research and neurophysiology (body/ mind) considerations will be presented including the concepts of dysregulation/regulation and hyper/hypo arousal. The impact of trauma/stress on the body/mind will be discussed. The course director for this workshop is John Micsak, Regional Clinical Supervisor for Holy Cross Children’s Services. May 25: “Resources for Grant Writing” workshop

April 26th, 2007

The MSU Kinship Care Resource Center in collaboration with the Funding Center at Michigan State University will offer a “Resources for Grant Writing” workshop on Friday, May 25 at the Hannah Community Center in East Lansing, 9:30 AM to noon. The objectives of this workshop will include: (1) Grant resources through MSU Library web pages and the world wide web; (2) Grants for nonprofits; (3) Nonprofit fundraising; and (4) Brief overview of proposal writing. The workshop is funded by the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging.
