Alpena—Child & Family Services NE Michigan Inc. has received a Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports Silver Healthy Workplace Award on Monday, October 21, at the Lansing Center in Lansing. The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports bestows the Healthy Workplace Award on companies with outstanding health and wellness programs. Businesses are recognized for initiating new programs and for long-term commitment to the health of their employees by establishing creative worksite health promotion programs with demonstrated success.

The Silver Award recognizes workplaces that have sustained participation or comprehensive programs in physical fitness, health and sports. Silver Award recipients must score at least 15 points in three categories on the wellness survey and have had programs in place for at least one year.

Child & Family Services NE Michigan Inc. has worked hard to promote a healthy workplace by identifying three main goals: to drink more water, to move more, and to eat fresh fruits and vegetables every day. On their bulletin board and within their newsletter, they promote information about nutrition, cholesterol reduction, stress management and physical fitness. They promote recipes by preparing and sharing with staff. They use incentives points in their programs for: attending a HeartNet Presentation, sharing recipes or health tips, attending membership meetings, preparing and sharing recipes, making preventive medical appointments, and for participating in exercise classes. At the end of each health awareness activity program, they award prizes to participants with the most points.
